Top Experiences Guests Talk about on Social Media and Why It Matters

Local Measure, the leading location-based social platform for hotels, revealed the most posted-about features at hotels. The study took place from January 1st until March 1st and included guest social media posts across 291 properties in Australia, Asia, and North America.

These were the most posted-about features at hotels.

Restaurants and Meals

Posts on the food made up a whopping 11,700 posts. Instagram makes it easy for anyone to take a picture of their food and share it instantly with hundreds or thousands of followers. Some hotel chefs have even begun to design dishes to look great on Instagram.

Drinks/ The Bar

Drinks brought in 6,400 posts. Drinks are a symbol of relaxation and fun. Guests want to show off the height of their relaxation and enjoyment.

View from the Guest’s Room

Room views had over 4,000 posts. The view from the room connects guests to their location. Guests post scenic pictures of historic buildings, beaches, and mountains just minutes outside their hotel.

Key Room Features/ Condition of the Room

Room features brought over 3,000 posts. While every guest may not have the time to experience all of the amenities, they will certainly experience what the room has to offer. Interesting and unique room features are sure to make an appearance on social media.

The Pool/ Swimming

There were over 2,800 posts on the pool. Pools are the ideal place for a selfie, and it’s the ultimate location to show off your travel fun.

So, what’s the take-away?

It’s important to note that hotel staff was only mentioned 800 times. That means the guest experience stood out more than staff interactions.
