The hiring process has evolved. Age-old processes that were incorporated a decade ago may not be relevant anymore. Emerging trends have a huge impact on how we approach talent. Here are some trends to look out for:

 

Proactive hiring

The days of creating a job posting on Indeed in the morning and sipping margs in the afternoon are over. While you practically always want to seek out talent for C-suite executive vacancies, you now need to be proactive for even entry-level positions. Passive recruitment is not nearly as effective as it used to be. Keep chasing the talent.

 

Increased remote positions

The pandemic forced companies to confront the impending hybrid and remote work models. It’s not going away. Research from FlexJobs shows that about 50-60% of individuals are considering leaving their company because they aren’t remote.

 

Pay transparency

People don’t want to waste their time on a phone screening for a position that pays 20% less than what they make. Pay transparency is so important that NYC recently introduced legislation that requires employers to disclose compensation information within their job listings. Studies indicate that, regardless of state laws, workers are far more likely to apply to companies that are transparent.

 

Being human

So many companies have been focused on automation and new technologies that they’ve forgotten the human element of the hiring process. The companies with the best reputations didn’t become that way solely because they used modern software. There’s almost always a human element to a reputable company. This may mean it’s time to simplify any new technologies in favor of the candidate’s experience.

 

Skills > Experience

Skills are almost always more valuable than the time spent in a role. A candidate could spend decades doing a mediocre job, while another candidate may have only worked half the time while being a top performer. Focus on what they’ve done, not how long they’ve spent doing it.
