Pay transparency
People don’t want to waste their time on a phone screening for a position that pays 20% less than what they make. Pay transparency is so important that NYC recently introduced legislation that requires employers to disclose compensation information within their job listings. Studies indicate that, regardless of state laws, workers are far more likely to apply to companies that are transparent.
Being human
So many companies have been focused on automation and new technologies that they’ve forgotten the human element of the hiring process. The companies with the best reputations didn’t become that way solely because they used modern software. There’s almost always a human element to a reputable company. This may mean it’s time to simplify any new technologies in favor of the candidate’s experience.
Skills > Experience
Skills are almost always more valuable than the time spent in a role. A candidate could spend decades doing a mediocre job, while another candidate may have only worked half the time while being a top performer. Focus on what they’ve done, not how long they’ve spent doing it.
