The hiring process has changed significantly over the last decade. The technology world has seemingly spilled over into the hiring world. The new generation of managers is used to an instant gratification world. They can pick up their phone, do a search, and have the information they need within minutes. This has bred a very impatient generation of job seekers. Point being, candidates are no longer willing to “work through the process” to find their ideal job.
Move Faster on Top Talent Candidates
It used to be very common that the hiring process would drag out as long as two to three months. Employers wanted to be sure they interviewed every possible candidate before moving to the next step. Then, they would take the leading candidates through another round of interviews that could stretch out over weeks.
While nobody is suggesting that you simply hire a candidate, today’s generation of managers does require you speed up the process. Instead of waiting to find four or five possible candidates, once you find one you really like, start moving him or her forward to the next step so that he or she is not sitting around for weeks waiting for a second interview.
In addition to getting the candidate through the process much quicker, it will also generate excitement on their end because they know the company is interested in them as a possible new team member.
Update Your Applicant Portal
As stated above, the smartphone has changed everything. A recent survey found that more and more people are using their smartphones to not only find jobs but also to apply. In many cases, these applicants are pressed for time, as they are searching on their breaks or during their lunch hour. If the application portal on the company website is outdated, it could become frustrating or they may simply run out of time.
Know the Market
If you want the top talent in the industry, you are going to have to know what the market demands. Additionally, you are going to have to have an accurate salary history of the candidate to ensure that when it does come time to make a job offer, your offer is competitive. Prior to even posting the job, you should be searching job boards see salary ranges related to the positions you will be offering.
Hire a Hospitality Recruiter
Finding the top talent on your own can be frustrating because in most cases, only local candidates will be applying directly with the company. Hospitality recruiters are tapped into talent pools across the entire country. This does not necessarily mean the company will have to pay for relocation costs, either, although that would make the job more attractive to candidates in other areas. You would be amazed how willing some candidates are to relocate if they believe they have found their dream job.
If the local talent pool is not providing you with the candidate you need, consider using one of the top hotel recruiters in the country to assist you in your candidate search. Joseph David International has been placing the top talent in the industry for years and our team would love to help you find the ideal candidate to take your operation to the next level.
