Ellen Pettingill, the General Manager of the TownePlace Suites Orlando East, recently went back to work after a difficult 14-day self-quarantine. She could have easily been overwhelmed with fear, worry and panic, but instead spent her time planning and preparing for her return.
Networking from home, Ellen was able to connect with local healthcare workers and traveling nurses to set up a plan that allowed her hotel to maintain occupancy. While many other properties have been closing, she’s managed to hold an occupancy of 25 percent. Ellen, her AGM and Engineering Manager have collectively been working the front desk, rotating shifts and running the hotel.
“Make smart decisions, not desperate decisions. Take a step back, today is today and tomorrow is tomorrow,” said Ellen.
Faced with adversity, she chose an attitude of perseverance and resiliency. This saved her hotel from being closed, kept members of her team employed and provided the inspiration needed to operate an entire hotel with just 3 leaders.
We are experiencing adversity, but moguls like Ellen are proving hope, optimism, and inspiration! Thank you Ellen!
