INSIGHTS

Companies who invest in hiring the right people, have maximized returns. At JDI our goal is to help you build a passionate team that ignites growth within your company.

We’ve all experienced frequent and fluid change in the past 60 days. Overused words like, “unprecedented,” “uncertainty,” and “new normal,” are fitting clichés; even if we are tired of hearing them.

I believe we will see a holistic change in how senior leaders, CEOs, presidents, and other executives use LinkedIn, at least for those who seek to separate from the pack. LinkedIn used to be a place where recruiters and employers went to look for candidates to fill open positions. That was EONS ago; more than 60 days deep into the archives of American History when life was different.

LinkedIn is now a place for you to build a brand as a great leader, showcasing your talent for those who can hire or promote you, and to be a magnet for top talent wherever you go. Instead of seeking talent on LinkedIn, you will be building a funnel of talent and hiring executives who you seek to magnetically and centripetally draw to you. This shift isn’t all that radical, as our culture has shifted dramatically. When George Washington became our first President, decisions weren’t informed by the TV, videos, social media, tweets and pictures. Our perceptions are now influenced by the content that is available, you can’t hide from it, and we live in a day-and-age where perception is often reality.

How are you going to create the perception that you are a great leader? Just like the words “Coca Cola” bring a distinct brand imagery to your mind, you want to sear your brand into the mind of those you seek to influence.

Here are some tips on how you can enhance your brand on LinkedIn:

  1. Push out content: Post to your LinkedIn daily or weekly.
  2. Identify your desired audience: Who do you seek to influence? Find them, connect with them on LinkedIn.
  3. Push out good content: In order to brand yourself properly your content needs to position you as an expert, a great leader, a strategic thinker, and innovative.
  4. It’s a long-term strategy: This isn’t a magic bullet. It’s an ongoing strategy implemented weekly infinitely.
  5. BE AUTHENTIC: The real you is the most desirable.

While this is a long term strategy, it only requires one hour of your time each week. Those who evolve and adapt to the “new normal” will distance themselves from the back and give themselves a competitive edge. If you don’t believe me, look at leaders like Chris Nassetta, Richard Branson, and Tony Hsieh (to name a few). They are pushing content to LinkedIn often. If you are currently unemployed, or furloughed, this message also applies to you. The job market has shifted from a candidate-centric market to a company-centric market. How can you stand out from the crowd and give yourself a distinct advantage as you seek to catch the eye of hiring managers? Start building your brand now, and when it comes time for hiring, you’ll be in front of the pack.
