Why Job-Boards Will Soon be Extinct

Experts believe job boards will be gone in the next 10 years, or sooner. But why?

Job-boards were revolutionary when they first hit the scene about 15 years ago. Job-seekers and recruiters loved the opportunities they presented. But now job-seekers, employers, and recruiters find that job-boards aren’t effective anymore.

Job-seekers are turning away from job-boards for some of the following reasons:

•   Vague job descriptions
•   No mention of employer or salary
•   User-unfriendly process
•   Irrelevant results in job search
•   Unable to follow up directly with the employer or recruiter that posted the job
•   Lack of security with sensitive information
•   Too many job boards to scour
•   Lack of responsiveness to online applications
•   Too time consuming

Recruiters are also turning away from job-boards for some of the following reasons:

•   Job-boards don’t attract the right audience (too unskilled, too high-priced, not experienced enough, etc…)
•
Too many job-boards
•
Multiple postings for the same job across multiple job-board sites
•
Unable to network directly with potential candidates

Job-boards only have a 2-4% success rate of getting you a new opportunity; however, networking has a 50% success rate. Many people have realized the value of networking directly with a recruiter or company if they are serious about their job search.

Social Media is Becoming Critical to the Job Search

In a previous blog post, we answered Are Hiring Managers Looking at Your Social Media Accounts?” Social media is not just for vetting potential candidates.  Job-seekers are turning to social media to find career opportunities, and recruiters use social media to find potential candidates directly. LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter are a must in the job market for all players.

Forbes agrees that personal recommendations are the number one source of new hires

Social media makes it much easier for candidates to interact directly with companies. Recruiters can also get you access to the right kind of people. Recruiters have years of personal relationships with companies and their HR departments or hiring managers. A good recruiter can be just as trusted as a good friend.

Don’t waste your time on inefficient job-boards. Contact JDI Search today and we can help get you connected with the right people.
