Many us can agree that 2017 is flying by. That means many of us are running out of time to reach some of those goals we set at the beginning of the year…but not so fast. There is still time to set and achieve a new career goal before the new year.

Here some steps you can begin to take today to make that goal a reality by the end of 2017:

1.   Write Your Goal Down

Regardless of what you want to achieve, it’s important to write it down first. Whether it’s a promotion, a new job, or a new skill you want to acquire, write it down and keep in a place where you can always see it. This can be on your refrigerator, bathroom mirror, or maybe your phone’s background. Just make sure it is in a place you view often. Seeing your goal in writing everyday will be a constant reminder to you of what you are after.

2. Create an Attack Plan

Now that you have identified that main goal, plan the steps necessary to get there. Do this my setting several small goals that you need to achieve along the way. This will paint a clearer picture in your brain of what you must do. You will also feel a sense of achieve with the completion of each small goal which will keep you motivated along the way.

3. Build a Team Around You to Keep You Accountable

You can’t achieve much without the right people surrounding you. Having reminders on your phone or on a sticky note in your office will only get you so far. Once in a while you need that encouragement from the people around you. Choose two people you know won’t be afraid to give you a kick in the pants when necessary. In fact, once you’ve accomplished step two print your gameplan out with specific dates for each small goal. This will give these people a clear image of what you want to accomplish.

4. Be Adaptable and Flexible

Although it’s possible, it’s more likely that you’ll have to change or alter your plan eventually. Things happen. Whether it be at your company or in your personal life, something will probably force you to alter your course a bit. When these things occur it doesn’t mean you won’t reach your goal. I just proves that you can reach your end destination in more ways than one.

It is October, but you have more than enough time to accomplish that goal before the end of the year. Take these steps to identify and map out your strategy and you will certainly have something to celebrate by the end of 2017!
